On July 24, 2026, the Advisory Council on Historic Preservation (ACHP) voted to adopt a draft notice of proposed rulemaking (NPRM) on Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA). Section 106 requires the federal government to consult with Tribal Nations when evaluating the effects of federally funded projects on historic properties. While a public comment period has not yet opened, Tribal Nations can take steps now to prepare.
